New Mexico claims the lowrider tradition as its own, as do its counterparts in East L.A. and other rival go-lo centers, but most agree the classic lowrider was created as an affront to America’s middlebrow factory cars in a statement of cultural pride and individuality. Low ’n Slow explores what the resulting extremes of metal, glass, and chrome have to say about New Mexico’s Hispanic culture, introducing the unique voices and artistic visions that fill the lowrider landscape.
